Change your Wireless Channel

I’d admit. I didn’t really know that having same channel in different wireless networks would slow your connection down. I thought it wasn’t a big deal. I was wrong. I screwed up my router the other day in the middle of the night (while trying to forward a port) and had to set it up again. After that, since then, I started to feel like my internet connections really slowing down. Even I had an argument with the ISP as I accused them for throttling my connection.
So I sat down, test the connection with different modem and it was fine. Switched back to my router, the speed was capped again. Finally, found out wireless channel was the culprit and causing all the frustrations.
By default, almost all the routers are pre-set to use channel 6 out of 12 channels of 2.4 Ghz radio band. You might wanna do the same thing if you are in the same situation with me. Just login to your router’s config page and it should be under wireless settings.
Oh.. here’s a good tool to see what channels your neighbors are using this tool. [Mac] [Windows]

dude, what if I put “Auto” for my channel settings? will I still experience the slowness? or will it keep changing by itself, and I wouldn’t experience this situation?

If its auto, router should set the channel automatically or perhaps randomly. I’m not particularly saying that channel 6 will slow down. It all depends on your neighbor wireless connections.
Check with the net stumbler tool to see what channels being used and try select a clear channel.
